Hey, {{first_name | Founder}}!
Small announcement first: Clarity Filter is now No Hopium. There are a lot of great resources out there to teach you building. But "Build and they'll comeā don't work. This newsletter is aiming to be your best source of notes on distribution from real founders (think case studies, lessons a.k.a. dispatch and valuable assets). Stay tuned for even better content and thanks for your support!
Back to today's note.
Founders find incredibly creative ways to procrastinate.
They obsess over over-engineered design, corporate structuring, and the legal mechanics of hypothetical deals. They get stuck in a state of superficial diligence. It feels like critical work. It is actually just startup theater.
The most dangerous form of this theater is hiding behind the product.
Founders will spend months building an MVP and setting up automated marketing funnels before they have a single paying user. Then they ask about growth hacking.
This is a trap. If you automate your funnel before you have any real sales, you muddy your analytics. When the campaign fails, you will not know why. You will not know if the channel is wrong, the funnel is broken, or the product is simply something nobody wants to buy.
Manual sales must come first.

Selling by hand is unglamorous, but it proves economic demand. It teaches you the buyer's real objections and motivations.
You can build the scalable system only after you prove the manual conversion works. Stop automating funnels for a product you have not proven you can sell.
P.S. If you know a founder who is stuck in startup theater, please forward this note to them.
If you have any thoughts on this, feel free to respond ā I am reading it personally.
