Hey, {{first_name | Founder}}!

Do you know your ICP? How did you figure it out? With data, right?

Because if not, I have news for you: the best way to select an ICP is actually via evidence.

Most founders build it backward. They sit down, run a quick brainstorm, and write out a few personas. That is a shortcut to fake clarity. If your ICP comes out of a brainstorm, you do not have an ICP. You have a vibe.

The problem with brainstorming your customer is that you will always agree with yourself. It generates a comforting illusion. If the other candidates are not developed to the same depth, you never actually compared them. You just decorated a decision you already made.

The real mechanism is the evidence-first approach.
First, do deep topic research. Find what people actually say about the problem.

Second, produce competing segments using only that evidence. Force yourself to build completely different profiles from the raw data. (or ask AI)

Third, run a strict evaluation. Compare the raw research against the competing ideas and rank them. You must allow it to say: all of these are weak, the real segment is still missing.

Each ICP must include the exact jobs the customer is trying to get done and why they care. This gives you the precision to actually target the hungriest segment.
